TRISTAN MANCO

Highly trained in illustration, Manco is a well known artist, author, curator and graphic designer. He’s published over ten art books with Thames and Hudson, has lectured at Tate Modern, and in 2008 co-curated Banksy’s Cans Festival in London and the ‘Protest Art’ exhibition at Banksy’s Dismaland.

Manco’s work explores connection between people, cultures, and nature through painting, printmaking and drawing. Figures often appear fused or dancing, expressing their shared experiences and their human and cultural ties. Manco explores a variety of media from painted canvases to vintage posters. Tropical plants, folklore, and music frequently surface in his imagery creating a vibrant and organic rhythm. Stylistically his work often blends ancient and tribal motifs with contemporary illustration, with his influences including Brazilian art, Pre-Columbian textiles, and Tropical Modernism, resulting in a playful, expressive visual language that has been described as ‘ancient contemporary.’ His bold flat painting style with black outline only serves to underline his contemporary edge to his historic influences.

Manco lives and works in the UK.
